Marko Lihteneker was a Slovenian mountain climber. Lihteneker died due to oxygen problems around 8800m on his descent of Mount Everest.

Marko Lihteneker (born September 21, 1959 – died May 21, 2005) was last seen alive a few metres from the summit, when he tried to solve problems with his oxygen system. His body was found by Chinese porters.
This motivated my to include hin in the painting series „Into thin Air“.
This picture made Lihteneker know post mortem. It is one of the first ones showing a dead body on Mt Everest. Recently the climbers Oleg Savchenko, Alexander Sidyakin and Sergey Larin covered Marcos body with a canvas designed to last. They named their according project Everest 8.300.
